Digital thermometer and hygrometer

This image shows the clear lcd screeb of the ns asscoiates thermometer/hygrometer. The humidity reading is 35% and the temperature is 24.3 degrees celciusThis digital thermometer and hygrometer by NS Associates is small, compact, accurate and easy to use. It may not look like your typical baby room thermometer but is does the job just as well and has some extra features which are also very handy. The unit measures approximately 6cm x 8cm and is white plastic, with a very tiny pink tint to it. The temperature is prominently displayed in the clear, digital LCD screen as is the humidity (that’s the hygrometer bit). The 2 things that I like about this and which make it differ from the other room thermometers that I have reviewed are that it remembers the minimum and maximum readings of both the temperature and humidity. This is very helpful for when your baby is sleeping through the night; I presume that you will also be sleeping so wont be checking the temperature regularly as you might with a newborn who wakes up 2-3 times. By checking what the minimum/maximum temperatures of the previous night were, you can use that information to judge what to dress her in and and what sleeping bag/blankets to use for the following night. It really does give you great peace of mind when you see that the minimum and maximum temperature didn’t exceed the recommended amount (16-20 degrees). I personally think the hygrometer function is a huge plus, the recommended levels of humidity for a standard room is 45-55%, any more than this and you might start to see a build up if damp on your interior walls. This helps you to monitor the humidity of your little ones room simply and easily. For the price you pay for this, I can guarantee you will be happy with it. The batteries are supplied and it is ready to go straight from the box.

Good Points

  • The light is nicely worked out (by a simple touch).
  • Small and compact so does not take up much room.
  • A clear dual temperature and humidity display with Minimum/Maximum memory so you see what your house gets up to while you’re away.

Negative Points

  • Doesn’t look very ‘baby-ish’ when compared with the other baby room thermometers

What is in the box?

  • Thermometer/hygrometer with batteries

Product Features

  • Memory recall stores minimum and maximum levels within every 24 hours.

Brother max in the box as it will look if you order it

Brother Max One Touch 3-in-1 Digital Thermometer

This shows the Brother max thermometer in 'room temperature' mode. It is attached to its base unit and is standing vertically. The temperature reading is 20 degrees Celsius which is clearly displayed on the lcd screenI bought the Brother Max One Touch 3-in-1 Digital Thermometer as I wanted an accurate, reliable, easy to use ear thermometer. The fact that it read the room temperature was more of a bonus than a necessity, I already owned the gro-egg room thermometer which I was perfectly happy with. I loved the fact that you don’t need probe covers, you can simply wipe it with a wet wipe. It is quite stylish and takes aaa batteries which are much easier to get hold of locally than cell batteries. I would place this in my baby’s Moses basket before dressing her for bed and leave it on through the night so I could check it whenever she woke up for a feed. The room temperature readings seemed accurate and I was happy with my purchase. What I don’t like about the room temperature function is that whenever it detects a change in temperature it beeps and lights up. As you will know, this is the last thing you want when your baby is sleeping soundly in her Moses basket. The thing that I am concerned about, as are lots of other people judging by the product reviews, is the accuracy of the body temperature readings. There have been a few occasions where my children have felt hot to me but the thermometer has given a “normal” reading, or it has given one high reading shortly followed by a normal reading. I have a feeling that there is a knack to using this thermometer to enable accurate results, I have tweeted brother max regarding this and am awaiting there response. I truly don’t believe that a product that wins awards and is recommended by a media medic celebrity could be truly inaccurate, particularly as the room temperature always seemed fine (when compared to my gro-egg). Brother Max- if you are reading this I will post your response here. I look forward to your reply.

The only reply I had was to refer to the operating instructions. Please read the customer reviews before buying this product

This is how the gro egg will arrive when you buy it, it is in a rectulanger brown box with a picture of the product on the front

Gro-Egg Room Thermometer

This shows a gro-egg room thermometer at 65 degrees farenheit, it is situated inside a baby's bedroom and is lit up in the dark

This Gro Egg room thermometer started life as a Gro-Bag Egg and was developed further into what is now known as the Gro Egg thermometer, it is now more accurate than ever before (there were a few problems with the accuracy of the earlier model); I have tested the temperature reading against several other thermometers and they all consistently measure within 0.2degrees of each other so I see absolutely no accuracy problems at all with the gro egg. Personally, this is my baby room thermometer of choice, the reason I love it is that it ticks all of the boxes; it is accurate, it is digital and it is easy to read, but best of all it is colour coded. The last thing you or anyone else needs in the middle of the night is to be squinting at a thermometer that you are struggling to read – a quick glance at the gro egg and you can easily tell if the temperature is too cold (blue), just right (yellow), getting a bit too hot (orange) or too hot (red). In those early months when your baby is sleeping in your bedroom with you it is so reassuring to be able to turn over, watch your baby breathing for a little bit (in her Moses basket that is) and note that the gro egg is yellow and displaying a little happy face… Time to turn back over and go back to sleep…I also like the fact that it is mains powered, you can rest assured that the batteries won’t need replacing at the exact time you are trying to put your little one to bed.

Good Points

This shows a gro-egg room thermometer displaying a temperature of 77 degrees celicus. It is coloured red to indicate that the room is too hot

  • It is easy to see at a glance if the area in which you have placed it is cool, just right, warm or too hot.
  • Nice glow- enough to see what your doing but without disturbing the kids.
  • The Gro Egg does exactly what it says on the box
  • Comes with a little pamphlet (safe sleep guide) explaining how to use it, what each colour means and how best to adjust the bedding/clothing if needed.

Negative Points

  • You need to have a power point nearby.
  • The glow isn’t really enough to be an effective nightlight.

This is a picture of the brother max ray bath thermometer against a white background. The product is aqua coloured and is showing a reading of 36 fegrees celcius

Brother Max Ray Bath and Room Thermometer

This image shows the aqua coloured brother max ray thermometer in the bath surrounded by bubbles and water. It shows a reading of 29 degrees and is indicating that it is coldThe Brother Max Ray Bath and Room Thermometer is cute and accurate, fun and reassuring and safe and reliable. It is easy to use and also doubles up as a fun toy for your baby. It is battery operated which means it is very portable and ideal for checking the ambient temperature of different parts of your baby’s nursery or even different parts of your house. You and your little one can play with ‘Ray’ in the tub and know that beneath his fun exterior he is working hard, constantly measuring the water temperature. Ray is ready to go straight from the box, in fact, you could quite literally take him out of the box, put him in the bath and have an accurate reading within seconds. The Brother Max Ray is fully waterproof as you would expect and doesn’t flip over the wrong way when swished about in the water as other digital bath thermometers tend to do sometimes. He reacts quickly to changes in the water temperature (i.e. when you are adding the hot water) and it is reassuring to see the LCD display change almost instantly when you do this or to blink HOT if you have accidentally put too much hot in or if there is a hotspot. I would recommend this product to be used firstly as a for the bath and secondly as a spare/additional room thermometer. For the price you pay for the Brother Max Ray, you probably can’t go wrong – no matter what you want him for.

Good Points

  • Easy to useThis shows the brother max ray in its packaging, it is pyramid shaped with the product facing outwards from a clear plastic carton
  • Responds quickly to changes in the temperature
  • Blinks HOT if the water is above 39 degrees C
  • Doubles up as a fun toy
  • Easily portable for measuring room temperature

Negative Points

  • Nothing in place to warn you if the room is too hot

What is in the box?

Product Features

  • Digital LCD display with hot warning for parents
  • Recommended temperatures clearly indicated on the screen
  • Accurately reads both bath and room temperature
  • Doubles up as a safe toy

A sick cgild is being cuddled by his mum who has the mebbys mothers touch on her hand, she is comforting him and getting an accurate temperature reading at the same time

Mebby Mothers Touch Forehead/Room Thermometer

This is a picture of a product called Mebbys forehead and room temperature thermometer, it shows the product in white displaying a digital reading of 36.4 degrees celciusAs the name suggests, the Mebby Mothers Touch Forehead/Room Thermometer is 2 products in 1. Its primary function is an easy to use digital forehead thermometer, it is different to any forehead thermometer I have ever seen, you simply slip your finger through the band on the rear of the unit and gently place it on your little ones head, it has been designed to make reading your baby’s temperature as easy and pain free as possible for the both of you. If you are considering buying a forehead thermometer then I would recommend this neat little piece of kit. It only takes 6 seconds to produce an accurate reading, gives an audible alarm if your child’s temperature is too high, displays the last recorded reading when you turn it on as well as well as the ambient room temperature. If you are thinking of buying this purely for its secondary function (ambient room temperature thermometer) then I would bear in mind that the whole purpose of this design is to make reading your baby’s body temperature easy, it will probably serve you well as a spare (or as a ‘just to double check’ room thermometer) or one to give to the Grandparents for overnight stays/take on holiday with you but as far as room thermometers go, there are plenty more to choose from. However, for its main purpose, to read your baby’s body temperature, I would recommend it. You can rest assured that you will own an accurate, easy to use, digital thermometer that gives you great peace of mind and has been designed with the comfort of your baby in mind, when your baby isn’t feeling too well, the chances are she is going to be tired and sensitive and the smallest thing will upset her and make her cry, it can often be a battle trying to give your little one medicine 3-4 times a day as well as checking her temperature regularly. Mebby Mothers Touch helps to make that part easier on the both of you, all that is needed is a slight caress of your baby’s head and you instantly have an accurate temperature reading.

Good Points

  • Small and portable
  • easy to use
  • Produces a reading quicker than most other thermometers out there
  • Can be used to measure the room temperature too
  • designed to make taking your baby’s temperature easy

Negative Points

  • Not designed to be left on all night as a room thermometer

Side view of the mebbys mothers touch thermometer, it shows the band in which your finger goes through to be able to hold it properly
