Summer infant baby touch digital video monitor can pan and zoom up and down and left and right

Summer Infant Baby Touch Digital Video Monitor

The summer infant baby touch video monitor with pan, scan and zoomThe Summer Infant Baby Touch Digital Video Monitor has everything you need from a video monitor and at a price that is right. This was the first of the touch screen digital video monitors and although others have since joined the market, the summer infant is still highly recommended and packed full of features.

I always like to start with picture quality and range when it comes to video monitors and should it pass this test then I look at the other features which can often be the difference between a good video monitor and a great one. The official range of the Summer Infant Video Monitor is 120 metres and there are no issues to report on this front. You may find that you need to change channels on your WiFi connection as it has been known to interfere with the efficiency of your wireless Internet, however, this doesn’t seem to be a widely reported problem so I wouldn’t worry too much about it; Summer Infant have excellent customer service and will happily help and advise on any issues you may have.

The picture quality is superb and is exactly what you need for viewing your baby on a monitor. In day light (or with lights on in Summer infant baby touch digital video monitor can pan and zoom up and down and left and rightthe room) you can clearly see your little one in full colour and in the dark, the camera automatically switches to infra red mode; even if the room is pitch black, you will be surprised at how clear the image is of your baby sleeping soundly.

The touch screen parent unit is very easy to navigate and you can move the direction of the camera(pan), zoom in and out and turn the volume down quite simply. When the camera position is changed (pan) it is very quiet and there is no danger of it waking your baby up as have been reported on other monitors.

There is the option of adding up to 4 cameras so the summer infant could quite literally grow with your family. The battery life of the parent unit is good enough to last the day and evening (provided that you place it back in its base at night time to allow it to fully charge). You can easily switch between sound only and video/sound with the touch of a button, it also has a visual indicator should you have the unit on mute.

I can’t stress how reassuring it is to be able to see your baby sleeping on a clear video monitor screen and not have to disturb her unnecessarily when you are going to sleep yourself. (Unless of course you can’t resist). Should you wish, you can also plug the monitor into your TV to watch your baby on a bigger screen (not necessary but a nice touch). The microphone picks up sounds clearly and the talk back function works well. I love the fact that the camera can be rotated 360 degrees; you can watch your baby sleep and know that she is safe and also, during the day, watch her play without disturbing her (so frustrating when you get caught looking at your child playing on their own and ruin the moment for them).

You will not be disappointed by this innovative piece of kit, if you can work a touch screen phone then you can easily navigate the parent unit and have this set up in no time at all.

What is good about the Summer Infant?

  • Camera can pan 360 degrees and is very quiet when doing so.
  • Automatic infra red mode for when the room is too dark.
  • Easy to navigate touchscreen menu.
  • Can be connected to a tv.
  • Option of battery or mains power.

Baby dispalyed on the parent unit of Angelcare ac1120

Angelcare AC1120 Digital Video and Sound Baby Monitor

The Angelcare AC1120 Digital Video and Sound Baby Monitor
is everything you could ask for from a video monitor. First and foremost is the picture quality; during the day you will be able to see your baby napping in full colour, high quality video and during the night, you are still able to get a clear, vivid picture of your baby in infra red mode. As long as you have positioned the nursery unit correctly you will never have to go a moment without seeing your baby.

Angelcare AC1120 Digital Video and Sound Baby Monitor parent and nursery unit

If your little one tends to move around quite a bit whilst in her cot/bed then this isn’t a problem either, you can simply zoom in, zoom out or move the direction the camera is facing by pressing a few buttons on the parent unit(pan); having the option to pan the camera is quickly becoming a must have feature for digital video monitors and one that I would definitely look for when buying one. It is easy to operate, stylish, and well designed, the parent unit is touch screen operation so should appeal to the iPhone/ipad generation, this also makes it very intuitive and easy to navigate.

The Angelcare ac1120 has a 200m range, as you would expect this is subject to their being no interferences. If your monitor does go out of range you will hear an audible alarm to warn you of this. Angelcare have very good customer service and are always happy to help should you need advice on setting it up or if you experience any problems. You can adjust the sensitivity of the microphone so that you are able to hear every sound that comes from your baby’s bedroom or you can set it so that it only picks up on your baby’s cry, this is a good setting if you live in flats and often experience noise from above.

There is a huge feature list as you will see below, it has been very well received by those who recently purchased it and I’m sure the Angelcare ac1120 is going to be a very popular product in 2013. If you would like the peace of mind of an ‘Angel’ looking over your most cherished possession then you can’t go wrong with the AC1120, it does everything a baby video monitor should do and it does it well.

Digital thermometer and hygrometer

This image shows the clear lcd screeb of the ns asscoiates thermometer/hygrometer. The humidity reading is 35% and the temperature is 24.3 degrees celciusThis digital thermometer and hygrometer by NS Associates is small, compact, accurate and easy to use. It may not look like your typical baby room thermometer but is does the job just as well and has some extra features which are also very handy. The unit measures approximately 6cm x 8cm and is white plastic, with a very tiny pink tint to it. The temperature is prominently displayed in the clear, digital LCD screen as is the humidity (that’s the hygrometer bit). The 2 things that I like about this and which make it differ from the other room thermometers that I have reviewed are that it remembers the minimum and maximum readings of both the temperature and humidity. This is very helpful for when your baby is sleeping through the night; I presume that you will also be sleeping so wont be checking the temperature regularly as you might with a newborn who wakes up 2-3 times. By checking what the minimum/maximum temperatures of the previous night were, you can use that information to judge what to dress her in and and what sleeping bag/blankets to use for the following night. It really does give you great peace of mind when you see that the minimum and maximum temperature didn’t exceed the recommended amount (16-20 degrees). I personally think the hygrometer function is a huge plus, the recommended levels of humidity for a standard room is 45-55%, any more than this and you might start to see a build up if damp on your interior walls. This helps you to monitor the humidity of your little ones room simply and easily. For the price you pay for this, I can guarantee you will be happy with it. The batteries are supplied and it is ready to go straight from the box.

Good Points

  • The light is nicely worked out (by a simple touch).
  • Small and compact so does not take up much room.
  • A clear dual temperature and humidity display with Minimum/Maximum memory so you see what your house gets up to while you’re away.

Negative Points

  • Doesn’t look very ‘baby-ish’ when compared with the other baby room thermometers

What is in the box?

  • Thermometer/hygrometer with batteries

Product Features

  • Memory recall stores minimum and maximum levels within every 24 hours.

Brother max in the box as it will look if you order it

Brother Max One Touch 3-in-1 Digital Thermometer

This shows the Brother max thermometer in 'room temperature' mode. It is attached to its base unit and is standing vertically. The temperature reading is 20 degrees Celsius which is clearly displayed on the lcd screenI bought the Brother Max One Touch 3-in-1 Digital Thermometer as I wanted an accurate, reliable, easy to use ear thermometer. The fact that it read the room temperature was more of a bonus than a necessity, I already owned the gro-egg room thermometer which I was perfectly happy with. I loved the fact that you don’t need probe covers, you can simply wipe it with a wet wipe. It is quite stylish and takes aaa batteries which are much easier to get hold of locally than cell batteries. I would place this in my baby’s Moses basket before dressing her for bed and leave it on through the night so I could check it whenever she woke up for a feed. The room temperature readings seemed accurate and I was happy with my purchase. What I don’t like about the room temperature function is that whenever it detects a change in temperature it beeps and lights up. As you will know, this is the last thing you want when your baby is sleeping soundly in her Moses basket. The thing that I am concerned about, as are lots of other people judging by the product reviews, is the accuracy of the body temperature readings. There have been a few occasions where my children have felt hot to me but the thermometer has given a “normal” reading, or it has given one high reading shortly followed by a normal reading. I have a feeling that there is a knack to using this thermometer to enable accurate results, I have tweeted brother max regarding this and am awaiting there response. I truly don’t believe that a product that wins awards and is recommended by a media medic celebrity could be truly inaccurate, particularly as the room temperature always seemed fine (when compared to my gro-egg). Brother Max- if you are reading this I will post your response here. I look forward to your reply.

The only reply I had was to refer to the operating instructions. Please read the customer reviews before buying this product

This shows the brother max both in room temperature mode and as it would look when using it to read a baby's temperaure. The probe is poking out. What is in the box?

This is how the gro egg will arrive when you buy it, it is in a rectulanger brown box with a picture of the product on the front

Gro-Egg Room Thermometer

This shows a gro-egg room thermometer at 65 degrees farenheit, it is situated inside a baby's bedroom and is lit up in the dark

This Gro Egg room thermometer started life as a Gro-Bag Egg and was developed further into what is now known as the Gro Egg thermometer, it is now more accurate than ever before (there were a few problems with the accuracy of the earlier model); I have tested the temperature reading against several other thermometers and they all consistently measure within 0.2degrees of each other so I see absolutely no accuracy problems at all with the gro egg. Personally, this is my baby room thermometer of choice, the reason I love it is that it ticks all of the boxes; it is accurate, it is digital and it is easy to read, but best of all it is colour coded. The last thing you or anyone else needs in the middle of the night is to be squinting at a thermometer that you are struggling to read – a quick glance at the gro egg and you can easily tell if the temperature is too cold (blue), just right (yellow), getting a bit too hot (orange) or too hot (red). In those early months when your baby is sleeping in your bedroom with you it is so reassuring to be able to turn over, watch your baby breathing for a little bit (in her Moses basket that is) and note that the gro egg is yellow and displaying a little happy face… Time to turn back over and go back to sleep…I also like the fact that it is mains powered, you can rest assured that the batteries won’t need replacing at the exact time you are trying to put your little one to bed.

Good Points

This shows a gro-egg room thermometer displaying a temperature of 77 degrees celicus. It is coloured red to indicate that the room is too hot

  • It is easy to see at a glance if the area in which you have placed it is cool, just right, warm or too hot.
  • Nice glow- enough to see what your doing but without disturbing the kids.
  • The Gro Egg does exactly what it says on the box
  • Comes with a little pamphlet (safe sleep guide) explaining how to use it, what each colour means and how best to adjust the bedding/clothing if needed.

Negative Points

  • You need to have a power point nearby.
  • The glow isn’t really enough to be an effective nightlight.
